In an effort to unravel the stigma that surrounds mental health, Michael Johnson, Independence Center Healthcare Home Director, was featured on Fox 2. Johnson said, “There are a lot of stereotypes about what mental health is, and I think the pandemic did help all of us have more empathy for how isolation can exacerbate those problems. It also reinforced why our Clubhouse model of building connections is so important,” said Johnson. “We know that one out of every 25 people will experience serious mental illness in their lifetime, and 53% won’t seek treatment, in some cases because of the stigma around it. Our goal is to teach our members that there is always hope and recovery.”
