Follow along for the latest updates, photos, videos, and stories from those making this project possible.
About the Project
This project is designed to include 38 one-bedroom apartments, adjacent to Independence Center in the Central West End.
The concept is to create a campus model to provide low-income individuals, aged 55 and over, with serious mental illness (SMI), affordable housing options, along with convenient access to healthcare services, social supports, a Wellness Center with certified staff, amenities in the nearby community, and public transportation access within walking distance while providing the supportive services needed to maintain housing stability and live independently with dignity.
All tenants will be connected with our Clubhouse, which is a psycho-social rehabilitative program designed to improve individuals’ quality of life.

Groundbreaking Ceremony
On August 26, 2024, Independence Center marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of our new Senior Living Apartment Complex. This development aims to provide much-needed, ADA-compliant housing for seniors living with serious or persistent mental illness in St. Louis.
The ceremony was a celebration of community, resilience, and the collective effort to create a supportive environment for our members. It brought together staff, future residents, community leaders, and supporters who share a vision of stability, dignity, and hope.
This project represents more than just a building; it’s a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our members by providing permanent supportive housing. We invite you to follow our journey as we transform this vision into reality.
