Welcome to Independence Center, a community-based rehabilitation program for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses in the St. Louis area, built on the nationally-accredited International Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation.
Independence Center was founded by friends and family of adults with severe mental illness who recognized a great need for community-based programming, a need that was not being met. They tenaciously sought funding and support – efforts that have resulted in countless lives being changed through the Center since 1981.
Now, for over 40 years, we’ve served the St. Louis community as a fee-for-service mental health facility. Just over $1 million of the support for our work comes from individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations in our region.
As the need for mental health services grows, we remain committed to being part of the solution. We are proof that with proper psychiatric care, people with mental illness can recover to live self-fulfilling and productive lives.
Those at our upper levels of giving belong to a special group of individuals who believe that an investment in the value of Independence Center is an investment in our future.
“Independence Center’s success relies on the proceeds raised at this event each year and we are so proud and amazed at how generous our donors are. It’s wonderful to see the support from people in St. Louis and see just how important our mission is to them.” – Independence Center Executive Director Trish Holmes
