Message from Executive Director

Holiday Greetings!

It’s an honor to write to you as Independence Center’s next Executive Director. I am fortunate to be joining this wonderful organization during the holidays as we reflect on the year past and look forward to bright future.

My family and I celebrated Thanksgiving at the Clubhouse with over 200 members and their families who greeted us with open arms and truly represented what Independence Center’s culture is all about, knowing there is a place where you will always be needed, wanted and expected.

Previously I served as President and CEO of Gateway Regional Medical Center, and most recently as CEO of Springwoods Behavioral Health System in Fayetteville, Arkansas. My passion for improving mental healthcare services began after witnessing the barriers people with mental illness face when they leave the hospital and return to the community. Too often critical services are non-existent or not comprehensive. This results in vicious cycle of emergency room visits and hospitalizations. The consequences are detrimental to recovery and, at times, can cost someone their life.

I am proud to be leading an organization that provides a holistic, community approach to helping adults living with severe and persistent mental illness on their path to recovery.

As I look forward to next year and many years to come, I know it will not lack its challenges in regard to the ever-changing world of health care, but I am fortunate to be working with a dedicated team and community that will serve those who need us the most. I hope to meet you in the months to come and thank you for your dedicated support to restoring the lives of adults with mental illness.

Best wishes to you and yours this holiday season!
